Botox
Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contraction of the facial
muscles everytime you smile, laugh or frown. The more
emotion you show, the deeper the lines will be. Now,
an effective agent has been developed to treat the aging
face.
Botox is an injectable solution that has been developed
to reduce wrinkles in the face. Botox therapy is most
successful for deep frown lines, forehead creases, and
deep crow’s feet.
Ingredients
Botox Purified Neurotoxin Complex is a protein produced
by the bacterium Clostidium botulinum. The effects of
botulinum toxin have been known since the turn of the
century, but it was not until the 1980’s that
the toxin was found to be therapeutically valuable for
a number of medical disorders. Its most common use today
is for temporary reduction of lines and wrinkles on
the upper face. Botox injections have been used safely
and effectively for over ten years to treat many eye
and neurological disorders.
Botox blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial
muscles that are related to expression lines. Botox
relaxes the muscles so that they will not contract.
After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and
unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract
in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression
to be unaffected.Treatment
You will find Botox therapy to be quick, easy, and generally
painless. No skin test is required and the treatment
takes about ten minutes. After your makeup is removed
and your face is thoroughly cleansed, it takes just
a few minutes to administer the drug. Using a tiny microneedle,
a small amount of Botox is precisely injected into several
locations on the face. Because the needle is fine and
the volume is small, there is minimal pain with the
injections. Occasionally, a local anesthetic is required.
Aside from the initial needle prick, you should feel
little discomfort. The areas are then iced for a few
minutes.
Slight redness and mild bruising may occur. Makeup can
be applied before leaving the office, and normal activities
can be resumed. Strenuous activity should be avoided
for the next 24 hours.
After Treatment
The most common side effect with Botox injections are
localized redness, pain and bruising. Rarely, drooping
of the upper eyelid and brow, and facial asymmetry can
occur. Please note that all side effects are temporary
and will resolve in a period of time. How Many Treatments
Are Needed?
Botulinum toxin usually takes full effect within 1 to
2 weeks. However, the nerve endings usually grow new
connections to the muscles at sites that have not been
exposed to the toxin. Therefore, to maintain the effects
of Botox therapy, treatment is often repeated every
4-6 months. Over time and repeated injections, the Botox
appears to last longer, and less frequent injections
will be required. Also, the duration of effect varies
from patient to patient, and may be less effective for
those over 65 years of age.
The Results
The results can sometimes be seen within the first few
hours, but it may take 1 to 2 weeks for the full effect
to become apparent. You will notice greatly diminised
wrinkles and softer facial lines which result in a younger,
more vibrant appearance. Every year, thousands of Botox
treatments are performed, and it is quickly becoming
a popular treatment option for reversing the signs of
aging.
